We live about 2.5kms from school. That doesn't sound far, but its about a 30 minute walk depending on how long your legs are.
Since spring is finally here, (Yeah!) one fine afternoon I walked up to collect him so he could walk home with me. It's a gentle downward walk home so I though that would be a good start for him, and we wouldn't have to worry about getting to school on time.
We held hands for a while
He happily carried his school bag
We window shopped
And noticed things we had never seen before
He got thirsty and hungry here
So we refuelled
Back on the move we did road safety
And took a short cut
B found this
He made some noise
And finally ran for home
Not only was this a healthy active way to get home it was great for B to get to know his neighbourhood and experience the details that normally whizz by. He felt a real sense of achievement at home, as well as feeling tired, but not tired enough for bed of course.

This is a wonderful piece. Beautifully illustrated with simple advice for all parents how to educate, enlighten and enjoy their children with the simplest things in life.
I love this because I really enjoy walking around our suburb. We walk to and from Kindy with Junior two days per week. It is only about a 15min walk but he always wants to go in the car because that is what the other kids do. The grass is always greener!
I hope other young mums with small children read this blog, it's just so inspiring and the photos are so charming.
We walk to and from school whenever we can, but while it's pretty, it's nowhere near as interesting as your walk!

Joseph and I walk every Wednesday around his area and we have been doing that since he was 2.
We sing songs, tell stories, find feathers for me and bottle tops for him. It is a wonderful day.

What a lovely way to get home from school.
So grown up in his uniform. The shop you are window shopping at looks really cool, I'd stop there too :grin:
I'm looking forward to next year when both my girls are at the same school and we can walk home together :) At the moment it is a little too challenging with picking one up at 3pm at her school then going to the other school for 3.30pm pick up.
I used to love walking to school as a child, well - except for the cold, rainy days that is :) Your walk looks much more interesting and varied than ours was.
