It's cold.
The kids are climbing the walls.
You just have to get out of the house.
But, you don't want to spend any money.
Where do you go?
A library of course.
We ventured into the hills, past our local dusty library, to go to the purpose built Stirling Library. It has a great children's section. You can safely make as much noise as you want as the children's library is located away from the adult's books. A cafe space and the borrowing desk actually separate the areas so you don't have to keep quiet. (However Little Miss did at one point decide to do a run through the quiet reading areas with B then me running after her, of course I received several looks with daggers, but just thought, "Lighten up people, public libraries are for everyone.")
We aren't members so borrowing books was not on the agenda, but the kids did not mind.

We played with the computers, explored the toilets, had a few stories together on a nice comfy couch, and drank the free water from paper cups. B had lots of fun playing knock'em down dominos with a giant wooden domino set.
Little Miss concentrated really hard on the game, but got a bit frustrated.
It was a fun afternoon.

It's so great to see that other mums use the libraries as a resource for their kids. All mine got library cards early and we've really made the most of the ones we've belonged to.
Our local library is great for a country town, although it disturbs me to see the computers with young people all on Facebook, every time I go in there after school hours. Sad.
We're white knuckling the school holidays ourselves hee.

We love our library and usually go a couple of times a week, but have been giving it a miss with the school holidays on and all the extra activities (our library is currently in 2 portable buildings, so not very large, but a great service!). Thank goodness we had already borrowed several dvd's, a couple of cd's and about 3 dozen books :D
And that's just for Princess! LOL
I have not taken My Daughter to a library,as she's not the quietest child you'll ever meet..
But now that you've mentioned it, I might look into finding one with a space for kids.

We go to our local library each week to swap over out books but the one you visited looks fantastic!
We love our libraries and have been exploring different libraries in the same group - usually we just go to our closest library. These holidays seemed the perfect time to go visit some of the others a little further away. So much great fun to be had at the library :)
Thoroughly enjoyed this especially the photos. Curiously Little Miss and B's great grandparents both used libraries extensively all their lives but owned very few books! That to them was a waste of money to buy something that could be obtained for nothing.
It's winter and it's cold. I love that sentence. I can finally rub an Australian's face in the fact that it's summer and it's HOT.
But the kids are still bored. They want me to entertain them.
I guess we have more in common than we think...
What a fantastic kids library space. We love the library but it doesn't look nearly this special :)
